The UDC Consortium (UDCC) is a self-funded, non-commercial, organization. It was established in 1991 by FID and the publishers of the Dutch, English, French, Japanese and Spanish editions. The Consortium assumed ownership of UDC on 1 January 1992. Current members are AENOR (Spain), BSI (UK), CEFAL (Belgium), National Library of the Czech Republic and VINITI (Russia).

The objective of the organization is to direct the development and dissemination of the Universal Decimal Classification in the best interests of its publishers and users.

Each of the members of the Consortium has the exclusive right to publish UDC in its language. Members of the consortium, together with the chairman and the editor-in-chief of the UDC, form the Executive Committee. This body determines the strategy and policy of the Consortium's activities and assigns priorities and budgets. Day to day administration and management of UDCC activities rests with the office administrator.

The development and the maintenance of the UDC scheme is the responsibility of the UDC Editorial Team, consisting of associate editors and coordinated by the editor-in-chief. The work on the scheme revision and development is done in cooperation with the UDC Advisory Board, an international body of classification specialists.
