The Pocket Edition
becomes
the Abridged Edition
The English-language Pocket Edition of UDC, PD 1000, originally published by BSI
as DISC PD 1000 in 1999, has established itself as a teaching edition, and
frequent updating is necessary for the teaching of UDC in its latest authorized
state.
A new edition was prepared and has been tested in use in the annual course. An introduction to UDC at University College London. BSI has now decided to publish the new edition in a loose-leaf A4 format. BSI will maintain the files inhouse and print on demand, so future editions can be produced rapidly when needed.
The scope is still the same – only the format has changed, so the Pocket Edition is now called the Abridged Edition. It contains about 4100 classes and incorporates major changes to the scheme since 1999, including the new properties table (1k-02) and new and revised classes for management, religion, population, tourism, social welfare, environment studies, biotechnology and cinema.
